In his video work, Claerbout exploits our fascination for well-known images that start to lead a new life and become contemporary again. He uses minimal manipulations to create a meditative space from a photographic, momentary shot. A delightful green Vietnamese landscape is disrupted by the debris of a fighter plane that refuses to hit the ground and remains suspended in mid-air. Tranquillity and menace keep each other in balance.
