Planet B: The Antman

The Antman forms part of a series of films entitled Planet B, based on old Bmovies from the horror genre, including the cinematographic approach taken back then. The inventive and opulent studio sets and lighting give the new series camp qualities and even the low budgets match those of days gone by.The war hero Don José and his brand new bride Bella Bonita arrive in the Mexican village of Campo del Sol. They ignore the urgent advice of the mayor and villagers to leave at once. Nor can they see that, apart from the invalid, female mayor, there is not a single other woman in town. It soon becomes apparent that below the ranch where the loving couple want to settle down, is the epicentre of the insane ant priest Loco Santano. He forges a diabolical plan: to create El Bicho, an incomparable creature that is half man, half ant. Loco Santano regards Bella Bonita as the future Queen who shall bear the monster. Will Don José save his beloved wife in time?The moments of approaching disaster are dryly and humorously accompanied by dramatic guitar music made by the mayor and her Indian assistant Fumigimo. The kitsch images, the overacting, Germanspeaking heroine and the fake monster all contribute to an entertaining homage.
