Outrage Coda

In Outrage and Outrage Beyond, the previous parts of this Yakuza trilogy, the Japanese Hanabishi crime syndicate gains power after a fierce battle with the Sanno clan. Versatile director Kitano Takeshi, who had previously given the gangster genre his own signature (see Sonatine), laid out this finale tautly and stylishly, yet also impassively and harshly, despite a dash of pitch-black humour. Otomo (Kitano), the stoic old-fashioned Yakuza, now has a Korean patron. He would most love to go fishing with his friend, but fate decides otherwise.

An insignificant incident in a Korean brothel sparks a battle between rivals that spreads fast and wide. Otomo is forced to get involved in this chess game with men in distinguished costumes. A cold world, laced with abrupt explosions of violence, where there is no gangster romance, where the old Yakuza codes have been replaced by merciless opportunism and even the police are at the beck and call of crime.
