Such a Morning

Indian visual multimedia artist Amar Kanwar, known for his sharp political and socially engaging, critical works, questions in his latest work – how to live in the present time? A poetic touch and the meditative concept of the work mesmerise the viewer and shift the focus between engaging the eye and the mind.

Together with the brilliant camerawork by Dilip Varma the remarkable Indian cinematographer with whom Kanwar previously worked on his documentary films, he perfectly and gradually builds the mood in this contemporary parable. Precisely composed images, a meticulously chosen spectrum of colours and distinct slow rhythm with no narration but intermittent text set up a drama between enlightenment and inner vision, while contemplating freedom, fear and politics. Another important element of the artistic signature of the New Delhi-based visual artists is diligence in creating complex audio textures with minimalist music, sounds from real life and Indian traditional singing.
