Director Sophie Hyde (52 Tuesdays, Animals) sets her third feature, Jimpa (IFFR 2026), in the queer heart of Amsterdam. Inspired by her gay activist father, her non-binary child, and the bridge she herself embodies between generations, Hyde’s film is a tender and incisive intergenerational family story.
A Dutch–Australian-Finnish co-production, Jimpa premiered at Sundance 2025 and stars Olivia Colman, John Lithgow and Aud Mason-Hyde. Join a special festival Big Talk with Sophie Hyde, renowned actor John Lithgow, Dutch star Hans Kesting — and Dutch co-producer Marleen Slot, for a conversation exploring the film’s creative origins, cross-cultural collaboration, and themes of identity, legacy and chosen family.
Award-winning actress Hanna van Vliet will be the moderator. Van Vliet was also involved in Jimpa, and will speak from the perspective of an advocate for a broad representation of female leads and queer characters in the media.
