However, she instead must spend more time minding her 5-year-old sister and navigating the petty battle between her separated parents, who are self-absorbed with their dating lives and ricocheting the sisters between homes. Ah Girl tackles the irrationality of adult behaviour through the eyes of children with utmost sincerity, quietly taking seriously the joy and anguish experienced by kids.
Basing the film on memories of her own childhood, Ang Geck Geck Priscilla puts us on the same emotional plane as her young Singaporean protagonists growing up in 1994. Ah Girl’s world is brought to life by its cast of riveting young actors and doses of situational humour, the playful cinematography further capturing her quirkiness.
