Filmmaker Flo Meijer stretches the conventions of traditional fashion cinema in her visually stimulating new short Dutch Dreams. She deploys the omnipresent visual language of fashion advertising and trendy music videos to present ordinary, characteristically Dutch scenes. Dressed in couture from various Dutch fashion brands, the characters wander through a polder, angle for fish in a small brook, and contemplate the typical Dutch light – accompanied by Jaap Velenturf’s hypnotic soundtrack. The result is a refreshing, playful, musical, and highly stylish film about visual culture.
